Leaders in Training

Where do great cabin leaders come from?

Great campers, of course. Campers who start out in the YMCA Camp
Indian Springs family on the camper side often grow and mature into
successful staff members.

To help in that tradition, the YMCA offers a three-phased trainee program
for campers going into 8th grade and older, specifically geared toward
past campers to become future leaders.  All LIT’s must demonstrate a
greater interest in working with younger campers, demonstrate the YMCA’
s core values, have a service mentality, and strong desire to learn and
grow leadership skills.

The 1st year Leader-in-Training
The LIT 1 program is available to rising 9th graders (at least going into
8th grade).  This phase is designed to help bridge the gap from camper
to leader.  LIT 1’s enjoy the security of a group environment while
learning under the direction of two support staff (Male and Female).  1st
Year LIT’s traditionally attend for two consecutive camper sessions.
The 2nd year Leader-in-Training
LIT 2 program is for selected LIT 1’s from the previous summer and the
focus is on Cabin Life.  They must be at least going into 9th grade and
recommended by the LIT support staff.  Again, there is a reduced fee to
participate in this program and attend for two consecutive camper
sessions.
